August Lageman, Ph.D. August Lageman, Ph.D.
Transformation Educator

Dr. August Lageman has been a United Methodist minister for 36 years. Serving 25 years as a chaplain in the Army Reserve, Dr. Lageman retired as a colonel, working with our soldiers and specializing in post-traumatic stress disorder. As Transformation Educator, Dr. Lageman brings a vast knowledge to Integrated Health Concepts.

His education and training include a Ph.D. in philosophy and psychology from St. Mary's University in Baltimore, Maryland and master's degrees in theology, philosophy, and psychology. For the past five years, Dr. Lageman has been a full-time faculty member at Virginia Intermont College, enlightening students in all three of his specified disciplines. Dr. Lageman has a unique perspective and ability to help individuals understand how today’s holistic approach to wellness can co-exist with religious beliefs of all faiths.

Some of his greatest influences in studying these subjects include Erik Erikson, Carl Jung, William James, Marcus Aurelius, and Socrates. Socrates provided the teaching that individuals should question everything and that an unexamined life is not worth living. And William James' work focused on the critical distinction between healthy and unhealthy religions. Dr. Lageman hopes to use his education and experience in all of these subjects to help individuals get "unstuck" from their current situations and help them make transformative changes in their lives.

Having relocated to the Tri-Cities area eight years ago, Dr. Lageman immediately fell in love with its natural beauty and decided to call this region home. Two years ago he put down permanent roots and built a most unusual home. It appears to be round but is actually a heptadecagon, a structure comprised of seventeen eight-foot sections. He chose this design not only because it is extremely energy efficient but also because seventeen signifies wholeness and completeness. The long term goal is for his home to be a model of energy independence.
